Marconi Gallery is closing the project “Naked as worms”, after the exposition of Rocco Dubbini, on Sunday 29^th April at 18.00, the solo exhibition of Carla Mattii will be opened, with critics by Piera Peri.

Carla Mattii is proposing a particular voyage through nature; her pictorial, photographic and sculptural works give us a fanciful and colourful botanic landscape, where flowers are the absolute protagonists. They are flowers never seen in nature, obtained through a scrupolous work of assemblage and synthesis . They’re unreal flowers but which could exsist, created by the human mind and intended to decorate rooms and terraces, in a feasible transgenic flower festival. Carla Mattii gives us the beauty of the flowers she creates and the fear to see them growing one day.

“A research that gets rid of the negativeness, the mistake, the stylistic or semantic failure, in order to state harmony, purity, the resolutive unity of dichotomies. Perhaps that’s why it’s only and always the flower the protagonist of Carla Mattii works: the flower has always been iconographically forebonding of positive symbologies and metaphore of concilement, of love, “creative freedom” as well, which the author was carving out, inside the most complex pictorial and sculptural compositions (let’s think of the altar-pieces or the capitals). The flower neither open conflicting spaces nor evoke any negativeness or rift.

The aim of the project “Naked as worms”is to make a virtual bridge between already known artists and young ones, giving a look to international arts too. The artists show themselves naked in their own research path, as only this way they can be genuine and be able to tell their own anxiety towards the present world, the difficulty and the continuous contact with the most different realities. Only being “Naked as worms” we get free from the loads troubling Human life and you can see and extract the beauty even from the gloomiest realities around us. This way what normally is a disparaging way of telling, takes a new aesthetic value and becomes a new beauty standard.

The future looms menacingly. In the next few years the lack of drinkable water will render some areas of the planet uninhabitable. The increase in temperature and the difficulty of irrigation will diminish agricultural production. The deserts will advance triumphantly. The excessive heat will allow parasites to prosper and infections diseases to spread. Typhoons and hurricanes will appear more frequently. The poles and glaciers will continue to melt inexorably. Entire coastlines will be submerged. Floods and landslides will torment cultivated areas. All these catastrophes will provoke massive migratory fluxes towards the wealthier countries (where they will exacerbate social tensions) and foster the break out of conflict between poorer nations. We will remember with nostalgia a faraway past. We will mourn the harmonious garden where it had all started. (Translation by Frank Rayner)
