CALADAN GALLERY announces a juried group exhibition entitled “Contemporary Icons”. This is a major exhibition of 36 artists from around the country and also includes interational artists from Canada and The Netherlands. The fact that the explorartion of modern iconograpy has been exalted by so much diversity in reponse makes this exhibition among the most provocative and exciting to date shown by Caladan Gallery. There is a tremendous spiritual and political cast to the presentation, along with the concept of the Icon being more hidden or subtle. The exhibition presents a coherent atmosphere, however, due to the thoughtfulness and passion of the artists involved. Also on view for the month of May is an addendum to “Contemporary Icons” entitled “The Marketing of Che” by photographer Ruth Turner. Mass marketing of the controversial hero Che Gueverra turns up in the strangest places around the world! The ultimate dichotomy! Also on view is “The Dramatic Light: Photography of Alex Norden”, a solo exhibition of dramatic, light-filled uncommon works by this astute and observant artist. Alex Norden’s photographs go far beyond the aesthetics of irony. Exhibition dates: May 1 – May 31, 2005. For more information please call (978) 741-7979, or email us at director@caladangallery.com.
“Contemporary Icons” has brought some extremely unusual and compelling talents to Caladan Gallery. We are pleased to include the work of solo award winner Quintin Gonzalez, whose digital woriks represent the mystery of the Adoration. His work is timeless, yet suggests the embodiment of The Lady into future settings, ironically creating the question of identity through the juxtaposition of the past and this future. Dorothy Oja, another solo award winner, also works digitally, exploring the aspects of love, and the revelation of beauty as sacred icon. Her work is luxurious, bathed in color, light, and mystery. Michele Rene Ledoux is a photographer of the texture of secrets. Her very tactile works are beds of revelation, seeking to impart the essence of Salvation. She will also be presenting her insightful photos of Italy in August.
Caladan Gallery welcomes two new artists to its membership. They are Jennifer Parsons Anderson and Nancy Hall. Jennifer Parsons Anderson dissolves the barrier between matter and spirit in her atmospheric photographs of dramatic cloud formations. Each photo is focused entirely on the patterns of the clouds solely, with light playing a unique role in each piece. The works each are associated with the reality of personal transformation, with titles such as “Trust”, “Universal Consciousness”, and “Reality vs. Duality”. The work plays within the structure set up by the aspects of consciousness represented in the subjects. Nancy Hall creates digital worlds. Deep within her playful forests dwell myriad creatures, plant life, myth, of uncanny resonance, an almost flourescent playground. She populates her environments with benign, playful beings, creating an other-worldly paradise. Upcoming exhibitions at CALADAN GALLERY include: “Dream States”, “Digital Universe”, and “Visionary Quest”.
