Valentin Startchev 2005
The event of the new exhibition “Valentin Startchev 2005” which GreenCat Gallery has the pleasure to introduce to Bulgarian public is the absolute proof of the statement that artistic inspiration and innovation do not recognize any age limits.
Starting from February 14, Bulgarian art lovers will have the opportunity to meet for a month with the works of one of the symbolic names of Bulgarian art Valentin Startchev.
A monument himself, Prof. Startchev has cast dozens of monumental bronze sculptures, which are on view in a variety of public spaces in Bulgaria, among them Sofia and Bourgas. His artworks have been chosen as gifts to Pope John Paul II and King Juan Carlos of Spain and his expositions travel all over the globe. His works can be found in the National and the Sofia Art Galleries, as well as in the Museum of Contemporary Sculpture in Midelheim (Belgium), the National Art Gallery in Bucharest (Romania), Russia, the Ludwig Collection (Germany), the Netherlands, France, Japan, USA, Italy etc.
A symbol of Bulgarian artistic creativity, Valentin Startchev reveals his ability to extract a semi-realistic human figure from an abstract bronze casting. Many of his subjects are feminine in nature. The works on view include Movement, Dance, Nature and Love, which have both rough and highly polished planes and surfaces within the bronze. The curvilinear shapes of the small sculptures invite speculation about the artist’s intent to convey gender.
But the author does not limit himself to only the well-known techniques. In the exposition halls at 6, Varbitsa Street, Sofia he will present himself with completely new and never exposed in Bulgaria drawings and sculptures. GreenCat Gallery is proud to present Valentin Startchev being one of the biggest names in Bulgarian art with his “Valentin Startchev 2005” exhibition.
